About UP-Hub

The Urban Planning Research & Teaching Hub (UP-Hub) is a new hub in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning, UC San Diego. Supported by the generous contribution of San Diego-based philanthropists Joan and Irwin Jacobs to Murray Galinson San Diego-Israel Initiative, the UP-Hub advances collaboration between researchers at the Urban Planning Departments of UC San Diego and Technion - Israel Insititute of Technology, bringing together leading international scholars to finding solutions to most pressing urban challenges in today’s cities.

Goals

The UP-Hub addresses socio-spatial injustices in contemporary cities through cutting-edge research and university-community partnerships. The goals of UP-Hub include:

  • Developing flexible tools for urban planning to adapt to rapid on-the-ground urban transformations.
  • Equipping planning students with inclusive skills, fostering socially and culturally aware practitioners.
  • Promoting diversity, reciprocity, and inclusion in cities and planning processes.
