About UP-Hub

The Urban Planning Research & Teaching Hub (UP-Hub) is a new hub in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning, UC San Diego. Supported by the generous contribution of San Diego-based philanthropists Joan and Irwin Jacobs to Murray Galinson San Diego-Israel Initiative, the UP-Hub advances collaboration between researchers at the Urban Planning Departments of UC San Diego and Technion university, bringing together leading international scholars to finding solutions to most pressing urban challenges in today’s cities.

Goals

The UP-Hub addresses socio-spatial injustices in contemporary cities through cutting-edge research and university-community partnerships. The goals of UP-Hub include:

  • Developing flexible tools for urban planning to adapt to rapid on-the-ground urban transformations.
  • Equipping planning students with inclusive skills, fostering socially and culturally aware practitioners.
  • Promoting diversity, reciprocity, and inclusion in cities and planning processes.
